What is the difference between the BCA and the NCC?
The Building Code of Australia, or BCA, is the older name for what is now formally called the National Construction Code, or NCC. Many people in the industry still use the two names interchangeably to mean the same set of technical requirements.
What is a performance solution?
A performance solution is a way of meeting the NCC when a design does not follow a Deemed to Satisfy provision exactly. It involves demonstrating, through analysis or comparison, that the alternative design achieves an equivalent or better outcome.
Do I need BCA consultancy if I already have an architect?
Architects design to the code, but a dedicated BCA consultant brings a certifier's perspective on how the design will actually be assessed and approved, which can catch issues before they reach formal lodgement.
