Mandatory Building Inspections in Brisbane
Every house and most other buildings in Queensland go through a set sequence of mandatory stage inspections before they can be finished off with a final certificate. Vast Consulting Group carries out these inspections across Brisbane, and because our certifiers have worked on site as well as in compliance, we know what a builder needs from an inspection to keep the job moving, not just what a checklist says.
How it works in Queensland
Under the Building Act 1975, a private certifier is required to inspect building work at set stages to confirm it meets the approved plans and the National Construction Code, along with the Queensland Development Code. For a typical house, the mandatory stages are foundations and excavation, slab, frame and final, with additional inspections such as bond beam or pool shell required where relevant to the project.
Each inspection has to be booked and passed before work moves to the next stage, or before it is covered up by later construction. Alongside our own inspections, we rely on Form 15 compliance certificates from engineers and other competent persons, and Form 16 inspection certificates from trades, to confirm specific aspects of the work such as structural steel, waterproofing or termite protection.
